Simple and effective DIY mask collaboration with Habiba Da Silva

It’s nice to read reviews about products you can purchase, but it is also great to have DIY recipes that are fast, cost effective and deliver results. My fellow blogger Habiba from lifelongpercussion.blogspot.com and I decided to do a fun post and switch DIY recipes for face masks. We each picked one for the other and tested them out!

I asked Habiba to try my Milk, Honey and Rose Face Mask. This mask is designed for smoothing and soothing the complexion. Great for all skin types, but especially sensitive, dry, dehydrated and lack luster complexions.

Recipe:

1 TBSP of milk (Preferably whole milk)

2 TBSP of honey

1 TBSP Rosewater

(For the ingredients above, organic is the best!)

Milk- Contains Lactic acid which helps to exfoliate dead skin and reveal a smooth, radiant complexion. Also has incredible soothing qualities.

Honey- A natural humectant, it helps skin retain moisture. Honey has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and is wonderful for soothing and gently purifying the complexion.

Rose- Powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. Aids in redness reduction and helps to increase skin circulation leading to a more even toned complexion.

Directions:

Saturate a cotton round in the mask and rub liquid on the skin, wait 10-15 minutes, or until dry, rinse and reveal beautiful skin!

Habiba’s Thoughts:

I really loved how cleansed, radiant and moisturised my skin looked and felt after this mask, the surface of my skin felt much more smoother. I loved it! I will definitely be using this again! I love the toning properties  and scent of rose water too :)

Some ladies are blessed with fast growing, thick, strong hair… And then there are the rest of us! Here are some basic, tried and true tips to help you grow your most beautiful, healthy hair, as fast as possible!

hair

1. When washing your hair…massage your scalp! Healthy hair starts with the health of your scalp. With a simple massage over your scalp with the tips of your fingers, you will stimulate circulation and deep clean follicles. This step will aid in speedy hair growth and overall hair health.

2. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair and scalp type! Finding the right product will make all the difference, and of course shop natural/organic!

3. Massage the scalp with oil, pre wash. Coconut oil, peppermint oil and Rosemary oil to name a few; work wonders to stimulate healthy hair growth and nourish existing hair!

4. Color, Perm, Straighten, Curl etc less often or not at all. These chemical processes and heat, damage the hair more than is eluded. If you strive for long beautiful hair, work with what you have and leave the tinkering alone.

5. Brush your hair frequently, to distribute natural oils and stimulate scalp circulation.

6. Use a good leave in product for the ends of your hair! Argan oil is a great basic oil that is wonderful for hair and skin!

7. Eat more Salmon, Nuts, Yams and lean proteins. All these foods contain essential nutrients that hair loves!

8. Over all health will show in your skin and hair. Avoid extra stress, get 8hrs of sleep a night and exercise regularly.

Weleda Skin Food & Aroma Crystal Gardeners Dream Cream – Current Body Favorites

fave creams

One of my biggest beauty shames as a specialist is my repeated neglect for the skin on my body. Although I know it is equally as important as my face, I have never formed the habit of doing it daily. Only in the last 5 years when I saw a segment from the Oprah show, best beauty secrets, or something to that effect, did it really click that I need to take care of the skin on my body. A woman of 70 years old looked literally 30 yrs younger, skin smooth and shining, all over her body. Her Secret? Apply moisturizer all over, everyday. Ever since then I’ve been desperately trying to form some sort of routine, and have never quite got it going. My reasons are a plenty, but mostly, I do not have the patience or time- and I do not like the feeling of it on my body. This year, moisturizing my body did not become a routine I desired to create to keep smooth and firm, it was a necessity to keep my skin from itching and burning!

I was of course hesitant when it comes to my current body favorites, because they are both heavier creams; but I was shocked at how my skin soaked them both up, and very happy at the comfort they gave me!

Weleda Skin Food

skinfood

Skin food is an amazing body cream for extremely dry, cracked skin. It has a very rich, almost waxy texture and a little goes A LONG way! It works phenomenal for stubborn dryness and cracked hands and heels. Despite its rich balm texture, when applied correctly, it absorbs so beautifully! Ingredients such as Sunflower Seed oil, Sweet Almond and Beeswax deeply hydrate and protect the skin; while Pansy, Calendula flower and Rosemary leaf gently soothe and have anti bacterial/ anti inflammatory properties to calm red irritated skin. When my skin was snowing skin bits, this cream was such a life saver! After the shower while my skin was still damp, I applied the Weleda Skin Food all over my body, sparingly, and was immediately hydrated! My skin felt slightly dewy but not uncomfortably oily like with many other creams. It actually repaired my dryness and I did not need to reapply for several days after (even though I should have!)

Another way to use this cream is as a hand and foot mask! Apply a thick layer over hands and feet, put on socks and gloves, go to sleep and wake up with repaired skin! Please note, this not recommended for facial skin!

Ingredients

Water (Aqua), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lanolin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Alcohol, Beeswax (Cera Flava), Glyceryl Linoleate, Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Viola Tricolor (Pansy) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Matricaria (Chamomile) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Cholesterol, Limonene*, Linalool*, Geraniol*, Citral*, Coumarin*.

Aroma Crystal Gardeners Dream Cream

aromacrystal

Gardeners Dream Cream is a phenomenal cream for dry, irritated, itchy skin. It is a rich cream texture, yet it spreads so far! This cream was literally my life saver when my skin was burning, itchy, dry and red. The Aroma Crystal Gardeners Dream Cream is amazing for soothing eczema, psoriasis and other unpleasant skin conditions or rashes! Sunflower Seed oil, Grape Seed oil and Bees wax provide a phenomenal base for ultimate moisture; while Lavender, Eucalyptus, Peppermint and Arnica soothe skin inflammation, are antibacterial, promote circulation and aide in skin regeneration!

I applied the cream right out of the shower while my skin was still damp, and was surprised at how quickly it absorbed! It immediately soothed my itchy, burning skin with a fresh cool tingle. The tingle lingered for some time after but eventually I felt a subtle warming sensation, all from the above ingredients which aid in circulation! I enjoy the feeling so much and find it extremely soothing. My skin remained hydrated and comforted for several days after use, and it is a definite staple in my body care regime!

This cream has so many other uses and benefits, but one that I find particularly amazing for me, is the use to help soothe my tired achy feet. The tingling effect provides a mini foot massage and calms any swelling, as well as hydrating!

Ingredients

Aqua (Deionized water), Butrospermum Parkii (Shea butter), Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Cetearyl alcohol**, Vitis vinifera (Grape) seed oil, Caprylic/Capric triglyceride**, Cera alba (Beeswax), Arnica montana (Arnica) extract, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Isostearic acid**, Tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E), Citrus grandis (Grapefruit) seed extract, Papaver somniferum (Poppy) seed oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf oil, Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus) oil, Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Cinnamon) leaf oil, Retinyl palmitate (Vitamin A), Michelia champaca flower (Chamaca) oil, Origanum vulgare (Wild margoram) extract, Thymus vulgaris (Thyme) extract, Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Cinnamon) extract, Hydrastis canadensis (Golden seal) root extract.

Please note that the above creams are really designed for very dry skin! If you are looking for some lighter weight alternatives, keep your eyes peeled for some upcoming posts!

Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Oil

weledaoilal

I would not characterize my skin as ‘sensitive’ but I would characterize it as delicate. This past winter, as I have mentioned in previous posts, has been hard on my skin. It was a combination of weather, hard water and stress. My skin was having bouts of tightness, dryness, burning and redness after cleansing, which is not typical for my skin. A few of my sensitive skin clients swore by the Weleda Almond Soothing Facial Oil for immediate calming and soothing, so when I was given the opportunity to try it, I definitely took it.

oil
With only 3 ingredients this facial oil is truly ideal for calming and smoothing sensitive or fragile skin. It was literally instant relief to my burning skin. The texture of the oil is light and not too thick, and actually absorbed very quickly while still leaving a veil of moisture on my skin. Although it is fragrance free, the natural scent of the oil is a very subtly sweet, which I really love.

Sweet Almond oil rich in essential fatty acids replenishes skins moisture while smoothing and calming irratation.
Plum Kernel oil works alongside the Sweet Almond oil to soothe and balance the skin. Rich in antioxidants and Vitamin A and E.
Blackthorn flower extract contains antioxidant Vitamin C and skin toning tannins (astringent)

I used the oil in the evening for one week and my skin was soothed and hydrated and I was able to resume my regular skincare regime. After a few nights without it, I missed it terribly! I am now using it once or twice a week in replace of my night cream. For any skin that is truly intolerant this is such a wonderful staple to have in your daily regimen. This is also amazing for when your skin needs calming and balancing, or after a facial treatments such as microdermabrasion. A bonus? This product is also a great for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles!

oilalmon
I used the oil on slightly damp, freshly cleansed skin in the evening only, and would not recommend it during the day unless you are slummin’ around the house, as it does leave a shinier finish than lotion and would not sit well under makeup. It can be used everywhere on the face including eyelids and neck/decollete. Another bonus? It can be used as an eye makeup remover!!!

Suki Eye Repair Balm

sukieye

After the skin on my face and body had shribbled up from the bitter dry and cold weather, soon enough did my delicate eye area. It became so tight and itchy, and the occasional eczema I get on my neck and corner of my eyes came back.
I was using a few different eye creams and remedies that soothed while on the eyes, but when I washed them away I found the eczema and dryness still there.

photo(2)
Thank heavens I had just been given the Suki eye repair balm.

sukieyeba

This eye balm is a melt in your fingers dream treatment for the eyes. It’s starts as a balm but when warmed in between the fingers turns into a smooth oil. The ingredients in the eye balm are extra rich and soothing to nourish and smooth the skin. The base of Beeswax, jojoba, and coconut oil ensure maximum hydration and soothing. Carrot rich in Vitamin A provides smoothing antioxidant protection and evening primrose rich in omega oil and fatty acids nourishes skin.

sukieyeb

I have tried other oils and balms for the eyes and never found them to be sufficient hydration, this balm was great hydration without being heavy or irritating. After one use of the Suki eye repair balm, my eczema and dryness were significantly diminished and soothed. Over one week the eczema was gone, dryness non existent and my fine lines were softened.

I would recommend this eye balm to anyone experiencing the above concerns (eczema, dryness, aging concerns) or anyone with intolerant or sensitive eyes.

Use in the evening time preferably and during the day if you are not wearing makeup.

Weleda Citrus Refreshing Body Oil

imagewele

I will begin by saying, that if you want to use an extremely clean, earth happy brand, Weleda is it!
The ingredients are from biodynamic and organic farms and they take the utmost care to ensure the purity and efficacy of their products.
weleding

The skin on my body has been neglected lately, due to a busy life and a wee bit of laziness, which is not good; especially during the Canadian winter, when moisturizing should be a regular part of anyone’s regimen.
My skin was red, itchy and chapped and when discomfort finally woke me up a couple of evenings ago, I decided I should take my own advice and pamper my skin.

weledaback
I am extremely happy with the relief that the Weleda Citrus Refreshing Body oil gave me. The oil contains Sweet Almond oil which is rich in fatty acids, and therefore extremely beneficial and nourishing for the skin. It also contains Lemon oil and other Citrus essential oils which are so refreshing and invigorating on the skin.

weledabot
After my shower, while my skin still had droplets of water upon it, I used approximately 4-5 tsp of the oil all over. I immediately felt a relief to my dry, chapped skin. The oil was smooth and easy to apply. I loved the fact that the oil was not too ‘oily’. I find other oils so greasy and slippery that they are displeasing to use, and they do not absorb properly, leaving you to either wait long periods of time before dressing, or get oil stains on your clothes, neither of which I enjoy. The Weleda Citrus Refreshing body oil was much different, it glided easily and absorbed relatively fast, leaving my skin dewy, not greasy! The scent was just beautiful and left me feeling smiley

oilhand

I would recommend any of the Weleda body oils, as I have tried many and loved them all. This particular formula is light and refreshing. If you have very dry skin or aging skin concerns, there may be others that would suit you better.Something I would like to point out, is not to over use the product, you should not have a thick layer of the oil all over, it should be very sheer.

With regular use of body oils you will increase skin hydration and help with skin elasticity. It can help with scars and stretch marks, and will give your skin a beautiful glow!

Bailey Blush Beauty Blurb #6

Is your Hair, Lashes or Brows lacking shine, fullness or length? Mix together Extra Virgin Olive oil, Sweet Almond oil and Coconut oil and apply to lashes, brows and scalp. These oils contain essential fatty acids and antioxidants that will aide tremendously in the health of hair and growth when applied on a regular basis. For use on brows and lashes apply a thin layer with cotton tip. For scalp, dip finger tips in mixture and gently massage into scalp. For extra dry hair, comb through for extra moisture! Wait minimum one hour or over night preferably, and shampoo as usual!

Bailey Blush Beauty Blurb #4

Do you suffer from dry or sensitive skin? I do! Especially in these cold Canadian winter months. Try showering in cool-warm water instead of hot. The heat in combination with the hard water cause redness and extra dryness. Keep a spray bottle in your shower with a pure oil such as Jojoba, Sweet Almond or Avocado. Spritz all over the body before getting out to lock in any moisture you can!

*please note that your shower will be very slippery from the oil, so rinse and wipe afterwards!*

Bailey Blush Beauty Blurb #3

Try keeping your eye cream or eye roller ball in the fridge. This obviously cools the product and allows for an immediate de-puffing action when you apply it. This is perfect for morning eyes! Cooling helps circulation so your dark circles will also be less visible. Plus, it just feels really good!
